Frequently Asked Questions About Bloomington Creative Glass Center

What is the Bloomington Creative Glass Center?

Bloomington Creative Glass Center is a studio, education center, workshop, and gallery located in Bloomington, Indiana. Our mission is to make high quality glass art and education accessible to all!

What types of classes does BCGC offer?

The Bloomington Creative Glass Center offers classes in glassblowing, fusing, stained glass, glass casting and other glass art forms in addition to coldworking and finishing classes. Our classes are suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike! Whether you're looking for a new technique to add to your toolbox or to test the waters - we have something for you!

What ages does BCGC work with?

BCGC has proudly brought education and artwork to toddlers and senior citizens alike. Each class has an age limit listed in the description and all minors 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. A few fusing events allow children as young as 5, though most fusing classes start at age 8. Stained glass and blown glass students need to be at least 13 years of age. When it comes to our large scale events and demonstrations, we encourage parents to use their best discretion. Some events, such as ¡Viva El Vidrio!, have activities geared towards children such as painting alebrijes and learning cultural dances. Other events, such as Blown Away, require sitting and watching glass blowing in a hot shop, and are more suited towards an older crowd.

What if I need to cancel a class?

Cancellations must be done 48 hours prior to the class. If you need to cancel please email us at bcgcglass@gmail.com and let us know. If you do not cancel ahead of time and do nt attend the class, no refunds will be issued.

Does BCGC offer repair services?

BCGC does not offer in-house repair services for glass unless the piece was made during a BCGC class. For all other glass repairs, we are happy to connect you with one of the glass professionals associated with the glass center, including some of our own staff. Please contact us to see whether your piece is repairable. Consultations are free. Email bcgcglass@gmail.com with the dimensions and photos of the piece that needs repaired. Please also include a more detailed photo of the part that needs to be mended. We will email you back with possible artists who might be able to do a repair on your type of glass. Stained Glass: Limited repair of copper foil stained glass. For leaded glass repair, the closest repair shop is Classic Stained Glass Shop in North Vernon, IN. Broken Blown Glass: If the broken piece of glass has a clean break and all of the pieces are there, it can usually be glued back together with a specially formulated UV glass glue. Broken glass cannot be remelted and reworked. Different types of glass are incompatible and we have no way of testing whether the glass you have will be compatible with the glass we use. Broken Fused Glass: Fused glass can be remelted together again, though there might still be a visual reminder of the break even after it has been re-fused.
